Phlebotomist

Job summary

Working as part of the nursing and practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities:

  1. Blood Collection: Perform venepuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring minimal discomfort and accurate sample collection.

  2. Patient Interaction: Establish rapport with patients, explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety and ensuring they feel comfortable during the blood draw.

  3. Sample Handling: Accurately label all collected samples with patient information, date and time of collection.

  4. Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols, including the use of PPE and proper disposal of biohazard waste.

  5. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of blood collection procedures, including patient information and any complications that may arise during the process.

  6. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all necessary equipment is sterile and ready for use, check expiration dates.

  7. Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless communication.

About us

We are a small and friendly GP practice located in Long Eaton, with excellent access to Nottingham or Derby or further afield, with junction 25 of the M1 being less than 2 miles away.

We pride ourselves on being a well-established training practice providing general medical services for our practice list of 5800 patients. This is a rewarding for someone who shares our ethos of providing patient centred care and is motivated to maintain and improve our high QOF achievement and contribute to the development of the organisational and business aspect of the Practice.

We are a fully computerised Practice, using TPP SystmOne and working towards becoming paper light. We have an integrated nursing team including a Nursing team, Health Care Assistant and an efficient and supportive administration team.
