Job summary
As a GP Receptionist, you will be the welcoming face and voice of our practice, providing a professional and compassionate first point of contact for patients. You will manage appointments, handle enquiries, support clinicians, and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. This is a varied and fast-paced role that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a caring, patient-focused approach.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities include: -Greet patients and visitors in a polite and professional manner
Answer telephone calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately
Book, amend, and cancel appointments using the practices clinical system
Handle patient queries sensitively and confidentially
Assist patients with registration forms and general paperwork
Maintain accurate patient records
Scan and file medical documents
Manage incoming and outgoing post
Liaise with clinicians, nurses, and other staff as required
Ensure reception area is tidy and welcoming
Manage waiting room
Follow practice procedures for confidentiality and data protection
Support other administrative staff during busy periods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment
Good IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, clinical systems)
Professional and empathetic manner
Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting
Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience using clinical systems (e.g., EMIS)
Friendly and approachable
Reliable and punctual
Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
Team player with a proactive attitude
Understanding of patient confidentiality and GDPR
Willingness to undertake relevant training
