Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Practice Nurse to join us at Axminster for three days per week, ideally Monday, Tuesday and Friday, working 8.5 hours each day. We are a very busy practice in East Devon and have a great team spirit in doing the best for our patients. Yes, the work is hard, and pressured at times, but it is very rewarding and we have a very supportive GP and management structure. The majority of our nurses and HCAs have been with us for a number of years which is a good indication that we are a lovely place to work.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties to include:-

  • Manage Diabetic disease register and review patients
  • Doppler assessments where required
  • Do any necessary adult vaccinations
  • Warfarin monitoring
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Cervical screening testing
  • Ring Pessary fitting/changing
  • Prescribed drug injections
  • Infection Control
  • Phlebotomy
  • Contraceptive Reviews

About us

We are a large Practice in East Devon, having just under 13,000 patients. We are the only medical practice in Axminster and have a clinical team of 7 GP Partners, 5 salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 6 HCAs and a Paramedic. We are a dispensing practice with 10 dispensers and we dispense to approx 40% of our patients. Behind this we have a Practice Manager, a Deputy Manager, 3 medical secretaries, 4 administrators, a data quality lead, 4 notes summarisers and 8 reception staff - so a large and productive surgery.

Job Summary: To work with a highly skilled team of nurses within this busy Practice

Tasks and Duties:

  • To expand existing Chronic Disease Management Clinics as well asinitiating and developing into new areas.
  • To be responsible for ongoing data recording and audit of chronic disease management clinics.
  • To ensure the maintenance and review of agreed quality standards.
  • To assist in the management of health care assistants within the Practiceto include:

(i) Identifying training needs for health care assistants and undertakingthe role of trainer as necessary.

(ii) Fostering a good relationship within the nursing team and Practicegenerally.

  • To assist in ensuring adequate nursing cover is provided at all times.

  • To ensure that the Practice complaints procedure is adhered to at all times
  • To facilitate and support all aspects of the Practice health promotion policy.
  • To develop initiatives and policies as required and outlined by the GPs,the Primary Care Trust and other relevant bodies.
  • To be responsible for all Infection Control issues, liaising with appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • To source, commission and be responsible for the maintenance of current and future clinical equipment.
  • To attend and actively participate in staff meetings, primary healthcare team meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
  • To support CPD and PQP activities within the Practice.
  • To liaise closely with the partner responsible for the nursing team and the practice manager, communicating and feeding back information as appropriate and necessary.

  • To undertake training as and when required.
