Job summary

We are looking for a qualified dispenser to work in our in-house dispensary.

We have an in-house dispensary and dispense to just under 5,000 of our patients. Our dispensary is always busy and we have a team of 2 dispensary supervisors, 8 dispensers and 1 prescription clerk. We also have a PCN Pharmacist and PCN Pharmacy Technician who work from the Practice. All our staff are part-time enabling a good work life balance.

Main duties of the job

About us

We are a General Medical Practice of eight GP Partners, four Salaried GPs and, at times, a GP Registrar or two. The Practice covers an area of about one hundred square miles and has a list size of approximately 12,700 patients.

As a practice we have a large team of staff who all get on well. We provide refreshments including a weekly fruit basket for staff to help themselves to and we listen to staff with a view to ensuring the workplace and workload are sustainable, well run and happy.

Job responsibilities

Axminster Medical Practice

Job Description- Dispenser

1. Make up and dispense repeat prescriptions as presented by dispensing and town patients

2. Make up and dispense acute scripts from GP

3. Collect script charges from patients

4. Identify which patients are entitled to use the dispensary for processing their repeat/acute scripts

5. Aid GP s in processing discharge medications

6. Update patient records with repeat/acute prescriptions

7. Record sales of items on private scripts including calculating their cost

8. Record any dispensing errors

9. Maintain drug security especially for Controlled Drugs

10. Process repeat prescription requests including online requests. Also includes processing at the weekend on a rota basis

11. Process prescription requests from appliance contractors and send electronically where possible

12. Liaise with GP s and Nurses via telephone and tasks

13. Telephone special orders

14. Dealing with patients at dispensary hatch with med collections and queries

15. Unpack and store medications and keep dispensary clean and tidy

16. Regularly date check for all medications stored in dispensary, remove and dispose of any expired

17. Maintain correct records for controlled drugs in designated CD registers, also carry out regular stock checks of stored CDs

18. Maintain accurate records for any CDs returned to dispensary

19. Dispose of any other returned medications in green bins

20. Process blue dot repeat requests, left each month by patients and issued again when due

21. Order medication needed daily including controlled drugs

22. Fill out CD requisition forms when ordering and ensure these are signed by GPs and given to driver on delivery

23. Process dosette medications patients, dispense and make up boxes ready for collection when due

24. Process email requests/queries

25. Liaise with town chemists on behalf of patients when required

26. Take telephone queries and forward tasks to GPs

27. Ensure that GPs printers are kept supplied with prescription paper from Boxes kept for GPs only

28. Carry out weekly destruction of returned/expired CDs with designated GPs

29. Process Just In Case medication for EOL patients once issued by GP. Ensure JIC scripts and bags correctly filled out. Record batch number and expiry date of each medication on EOL template in patient record

30. When students are working in dispensary ensure they are correctly trained and oversee their processing

31. Keep regular checks on uncollected meds and contact patient. Inform GP if any meds remain uncollected

32. Cover for other dispensers during holidays/sickness

33. Count all prescriptions dispensed each month and send to Prescription Pricing Bureau

34. Check blue scripts on return from GP and ensure they are sent to chemists when due

35. Check blue scripts and GP scripts stored in safe for script security once a month

36. Record fridge temp AM, PM in the record book

37. Sort returned signed scripts from GPs, check white box for chemist script collection

38. Replenish stock in date rotation and place order using stock control folder

39. Add signed scripts from collection that day on to GP clips

40. Match acute meds with repeat medication for patients

41. Assemble village collections and hand out to rep when they come for collection (whilst we are still providing this service)

42. Update the dosette lists on computer

43. Check stock of bags, boxes, bottles, dosette and script stock

44. Check monthly statements from our main suppliers Bestway, Alliance and AAH
