Job summary
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary to join our friendly and busy GP surgery. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organised, proactive, and enjoys working as part of a supportive team in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will provide efficient secretarial and administrative support to our clinicians, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations and high-quality patient care. Experience using EMIS Web is essential, as is a good understanding of medical terminology and confidentiality requirements.
Main duties of the job
Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to GPs and other healthcare professionals within the practice.
Prepare, type and send referral letters, medical reports, and other clinical correspondence accurately and within agreed timeframes.
Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including scanning, filing and uploading documents to EMIS Web.
Handle telephone and email enquiries from patients, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in a professional and courteous manner.
Liaise with hospitals, community services and other agencies to ensure timely communication and follow-up of patient care.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times.
Support clinicians with diary management, meeting arrangements, and the coordination of patient appointments when required.
Monitor and action tasks, workflow, and results on EMIS Web, ensuring urgent matters are brought to the attention of the relevant clinician.
Assist in maintaining accurate patient records and contribute to the efficient running of administrative systems.
Work flexibly as part of the administrative team to provide cover and support during staff absence or busy periods.
About us
Avenham Surgery is an inner city practice with a patient population of approximately 7,500. We are close to the motorway with easy access to the coast and country side.
We have a very friendly practice team with a varied skill mix including GPs ENP, PN, NA and HCA. We also have access to our PCN SP and mental health workers. All of whom are supported by our administration team.
We are a training practice and take medical students, student PA and have an FY2 on rotation.
