The Sixpenny Handley & Chalke Valley Practice would like to recruit a part-time dispenser, with additional hours covering holidays and sickness. We are a rural practice based in Sixpenny Handley, Wiltshire.

Hours: Part-time, additional hours to cover sickness and holidays.

Contract: Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our established and busy Practice for a Dispenser to join our team.

The role will process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs in accordance with the principles of good practice.

You will need:

Good standard of education, including qualifications in English and Maths.

Experience of Microsoft Office software.

Experience of dealing with the public/patients.

Keyboard and computer skills.

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team.

Experience of working in a Dispensary.

The successful applicant would need to have completed a Level 2 Dispensing Doctors' course "Buttercups".

About us

We are a friendly busy rural practice with approx. 4500 patients. Our dispensary has a dispensary lead, 3 dispensers and 2 dispensary assistants.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Sixpenny Handley Dispensary

To ensure the safe and efficient running of the dispensary on a day-to-day basis.

To undertake acute dispensing during morning surgery and in the afternoon if necessary.

To hand out medication to patients.

To check stock delivered to invoice and process any anomalies.

To log on the invoices any personally administered drugs

To file invoices.

To ensure all prescriptions are checked and signed by a doctor before medicine leave the surgery.

To log all controlled drugs in the controlled drugs Register.

To dispose of old medicines.

To keep the dispensing area clean and tidy.

General

To keep abreast of relevant legislation and best practice.

To process requests for repeat prescriptions for both Broad Chalke and Sixpenny Handley.

To be familiar with computer dispensing procedures and train other members of staff when appropriate.

To be familiar with the Online Drug Tariff and BNF and ensure that current issues are available in the dispensary.

To liaise with the nursing team regarding stock control of dressings etc.

To always maintain confidentiality.

To undertake suitable training and attend appropriate meetings as identified by the Partners.

To bring to the attention of doctors those patients requesting drugs who have not attended surgery within 1 year of prescribing any given drug.

To understand the legal implications of controlled drugs and act accordingly.

To maintain monitored dose systems as required.

To process the supplier orders for both Sixpenny Handley and Broad Chalke.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

Be aware of IT security and Accepted User Policy and follow them.

The Data Protection Act 1998 safeguards the handling of information held in both electronic and manual filing systems and it is the duty of all staff to uphold the principles of the Act.

Every member of staff must take responsibility for any request for information that they receive and respond accordingly
