Job summary
To ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient preparation and supply of prescribed medicines to patients, in line with relevant legislation, professional standards, and practice policies. The dispenser plays a key role in supporting the clinical team, maintaining stock control, and delivering excellent patient care.
Main duties of the job
As a
dispenser you will be responsible for the processing of prescriptions in
accordance with Practice policies and legislation.
The post
holder will be required to order and manage the dispensary stock and project a
professional, positive, and friendly image to work colleague, patients and
other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous, and
efficient manner.
You will
work mostly at the Long Sutton Surgery with the flexibility to work at our
branch site at Sutton Bridge from time to time. The postholder will need to be
flexible to cover annual leave and sickness when required.

Dispensing & Supply

Receive, check, and dispense prescriptions accurately and in accordance with legal requirements.

Ensure that all dispensed items are labelled correctly and supplied with appropriate advice.

Maintain confidentiality at all times when handling patient information.

Advise patients on the safe use of medicines when appropriate, referring queries to a pharmacist or GP if needed.
Stock Control & Ordering

Order, receive, and check deliveries of medicines and medical supplies.

Monitor stock levels and expiry dates, ensuring efficient rotation and disposal of out-of-date items.

Maintain secure storage of medicines in compliance with legislation and practice protocols.
Record Keeping & Compliance

Accurately maintain prescription and dispensing records.

Adhere to all relevant NHS, CQC, and Health & Safety guidelines.

- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services or Dispensing (or willing to work towards).
- Previous experience in a dispensing role (preferably in primary care or pharmacy).
- Good knowledge of prescription procedures and relevant legislation.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services.
- Experience with GP practice systems preferably EMIS.
- Understanding of Controlled Drug regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
