Job summary

We are a busy surgery looking for a Grade 2 Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our team. We currently provide care to over 17,000 patients in Bicester and the surrounding areas and as the town grows, so do we. Our Nursing team are an integral part of the practice providing care for our patients.

The ideal candidate will have phlebotomy experience in a GP or other clinical setting with the qualifications, experience, and aptitude to work within a primary care team of GPs and Allied Healthcare Professionals. Our team includes Minor Illness practitioners, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, Physiotherapists, Mental Health Workers, a Bicester wide Frailty Team, nurses - including specialists in Diabetes and Respiratory.

The role is busy, challenging at times, and will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care.

  • Signposting to other members of the MDT

Job responsibilities

The Grade 2 Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Core responsibilities:

  • Phlebotomy - walk in blood clinic for up to 40 patients
  • Measurement of legs for compression hosiery
  • Administer selected vaccines in accordance with the national schedule and legal authorisation. Working to in date PSD
  • Doppler ultrasound measurement
  • Dermoscopy
  • New patient health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Basic chronic disease reviews
  • Vaccinations

Other responsibilities:

  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs or practice nurses
  • Vaccine /cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Assist GPs with coil clinics
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  • Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required
  • Participate in training and CPD as necessary / appropriate
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
