Job summary

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.
  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.
  • Measuring and recording:- blood pressure pulse rate and rhythm temperature height and weight, BMI index, Peak flow/calculation.
  • ECGs
  • New patient checks
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Asthma reviews and Inhaler techniques.
  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
  • Ensure GPs rooms and treatment rooms are clean and well stocked.
  • Undertake dressing procedures following local recommendations, complying with infection control principles and practice.
  • Perform spirometry on patients after full training and assessment of competence.
  • Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.
  • Plan, develop and implement ways of raising and promoting awareness of health and well-being, keeping records of what has been done.
  • Provide support and encouragement to patients to self manage their conditions as appropriate.
  • Administer influenza, pneumococcal and Vitamin B12 vaccinations
  • Remove sutures/clips.
  • Smoking cessation.
  • Pre diabetic reviews.
  • Undertake foot checks for people with diabetes.
  • Assist Clinicians
  • Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using templates on S1 Clinical system with Read codes.

Participates in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times. Support nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment. The post holder will demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required within a time frame agreed with their manager. The Health Care Assistant will function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.
