Job summary
We are looking for a full time GP assistant to join our small but lovely team, ideally starting as soon as possible. The role is evenly split between hca duties in the morning and admin in the afternoon.
Main duties of the job
The role will assist the nurse in many aspects of nursing, training will be provided if needed! Admin will largely involve referrals management, coding, and managing other clinical tasks, including :
- New patient registration checks, completing any necessary paperwork
- Urine dipstick testing
- Phlebotomy
- To ensure test samples are appropriately labelled and packaged for transportation to the laboratory
- To liaise with the laboratory, acting as first contact for day-to-day test queries.
- BP monitoring including 24 hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
- Injections, including B12, within level of training, staples / stitches removal, changing dressings
- Adult Seasonal Immunisations (this requires training certificate, observation and PSD)
- Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals for educational
- Spirometry, asthma and diabetic checks and make sure the right templates are filled and coded
- Perform alcohol questionnaires, mini-mental tests subject to competencies
- To carry out patient health checks, including health screening and measurements, and recording previous medical history, family history and current medications.

- Answer phones, sometimes directing calls to other staff through the switchboard or phone system
