We are a friendly and welcoming GP surgery in Newcastle upon Tyne, committed to delivering exceptional healthcare to our local community.
We are looking for a Medical Receptionist to join our practice team. As the first point of contact for many of our patients, you will play a vital role in ensuring they receive a professional, caring, and efficient service. You will provide reception and administrative support to the practice team, contributing to the smooth running of the surgery and helping us to deliver the best possible care.

Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Welcoming patients and visitors, providing assistance in a polite and professional manner

Answering telephone calls and dealing with patient queries promptly and sensitively

Using the appointment system effectively to book, amend, and cancel appointments

Processing repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols

Inputting, updating, and retrieving information on the clinical system (SystmOne)

Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including electronic tasks

Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks as required

Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times

The Practice has a clinical team comprising of 4 GP Partners and 1 ANP partner as well as a full compliment of nurses and healthcare assistants. We are a teaching Practice and host GP registrars.

Welcome and assist patients and visitors in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner

Answer incoming telephone calls, deal with queries, take messages, and redirect calls as appropriate

Register new patients and process relevant documentation in line with practice policy

Book, amend, and cancel appointments using the SystmOne patient management system

Process prescription requests, hospital letters, and other patient-related documentation
Administration

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and input data into SystmOne

Manage incoming and outgoing mail, including scanning, coding, and distributing correspondence

Assist clinicians and staff with administrative tasks such as referrals, test results, and filing

Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with GDPR and practice policies

Contribute to the effective running of the practice by supporting colleagues as required
