Job summary

Newbold Verdon Medical Practice is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic practice-based Pharmacy Technician.

We are delighted to be offering an exciting opportunity to join our supportive, innovative and friendly pharmacy team working alongside our forward-thinking wider general practice team in the provision of excellent patient care

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes.
  • Conduct medicine optimisation tasks including effective medicines administration (e.g., checking inhaler technique), support with medication reviews and medicines reconciliation. When required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
  • Work in the dispensary to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice.
  • To ensure the smooth and efficient running of the dispensary in-line with practice Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain a central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols and liaise with secondary care specialists as necessary.
  • Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
  • Assist in the delivery of the Medicines Optimisation Framework (MOF) through data analysis and audit work.
  • Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., COVID-19 or flu clinics) through advice or direct care.

  • Undertake other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as supported by the practice Clinical Pharmacy Team and GPs.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is a Pharmacy Technician and is an integral part of the pharmacy team and general practice team, working within their professional boundaries.

This role will work under the supervision of the Clinical Pharmacist / Senior Pharmacy Technician / GPs to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.

They will provide technical and administrative support to GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, and the general practice team.

The Pharmacy Technician will conduct medicine optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration, reconciliation, synchronisation and supporting with medication reviews.

The Pharmacy Technician will support with requests/queries from patients and other health care settings regarding medication, including the issuing of repeat prescriptions and supporting with out-of-stock medication.

They will complete audits regarding patient safety and cost-effective prescribing of medication and share the information with the clinical team.

To work in the dispensary to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice and standard operating procedures.
