Primary Care Podiatrist

Job summary

The PCN is looking for a podiatrist to work alongside the Diabetic HUB model the PCN has. The Podiatrist would work closely with the nurses and GP with specialist interest to take referrals to provide more specialist care for diabetic patients. The podiatrist may also take referrals from our musculoskeletal department. The PCN has its own building - Norton Place, in which all PCN staff work from. All surgeries in the PCN are within 3 miles so everyone is familiar with each other.

Main duties of the job

As a podiatrist, you'll need to:

  • assess, diagnose, treat and evaluate abnormalities and diseases related to the foot and lower limb in people of all ages
  • work with high-risk patient groups such as the elderly and those with increased risk of amputation
  • give advice and make referrals to other healthcare and social services professionals as appropriate
  • use therapeutic and surgical techniques to treat foot and lower leg issues (e.g. carrying out nail and soft tissue surgery using local anaesthetic)
  • prescribe, produce and fit orthotics and other aids and appliances
  • deliver foot health education
  • understand the mechanics of the body in order to preserve, restore and develop movement
  • work with people in sports or dance/performance to address related injuries and stress to legs and feet
  • use a range of equipment including surgical instruments, dressings, treatment tables, orthotic (inner sole) materials, lasers, grinders, shaping equipment, x-ray and video gait-analysis equipment (which allows for analysis of patients' walking or running problems)
  • undertake a range of administrative tasks such as ensuring stock levels are maintained and securely stored, and that equipment is kept in good working order.

About us

Southend East PCN is working towards being an Integrated Neighbourhood Team - working with lots of different professionals and organisations to work towards NHS Englands Framework.

The PCN has its own building, situated in Shoebury, with a strong team made up of many different professionals. The PCN works closely with its member practices who always help when needed, and support the PCN in every way they can.
