Job summary

We are looking for a well organised, motivated and pleasant Patient Services Team Member to be part of our Patient Services Team.

The role supports the Doctors, Nurses and Practice Manager to provide an effective and efficient administration service. This includes reception duties, data input and record management. Liaison with medical professionals to support our patients and assist in meeting their needs.

It is essential that you have an excellent telephone manner and should display good interpersonal skills, be computer literate and be able to prioritise effectively. You should also be dedicated to getting everything right first time for our patients and be able to ensure us of your confidentiality. Experience in a GP Practice or with SystmOne would be beneficial.

The ideal candidates would possess the ability to work as part of a team, good I.T and customer service skills, the ability to work on their own initiative with a flexible approach to work. You will need to be able to handle the pressure which can be experienced with high work volumes at certain times of the day and be proactive with your workload.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible as we operate a shift system and work is based across 2 sites approximately 1 mile apart on main bus routes.

About us

Bowling Highfield Medical Practice is a practice offering care to nearly 15,000 patients across 2 sites within BD4. Our patients will attend clinics either at Highfield Medical Centre (BD4 9QA) or Bowling Medical Centre (BD4 7SS). Our Highfield site is predominantly used for planned appointments such as Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant appointments but you will get the opportunity to work across both sites to serve our patient population.

The Practice is forward thinking and is very keen to deliver high quality medical services. We have achieved the prestigious Quality Practice Award from the Royal College of General Practitioners and is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We operate on the System One Clinical System, use Ardens template and have our own personalised templates to reduce paperwork and provide a streamlined system.

Job responsibilities

To ensure that the reception areas of the Practice runs smoothly and provides the highest achievable levels of service to both patients and other members of the Practice Team including Doctors and Nurses.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Telephone Duties

These will include

Giving out results

Making appointments

Prescription requests

Contacting other providers

Ambulance bookings

General enquires

Arranging home visits

2. General Reception Duties

These will include

Greeting and directing patients and visitors

Handing out prescriptions

Making appointments

Responding to the needs of both Doctors and Nurses during surgery

Preparing the consulting rooms prior to surgery and tidying the rooms after surgery

Health and safety awareness (e.g. handling samples)

General housekeeping e.g. keeping the waiting areas and reception tidy

Inputting and extracting information from the Practice computer system

Collecting monies from patients for non NHS services

Occasional audio-typing
