A friendly, successful and well organised practice are looking to seek an enthusiastic and motivated Business Development Manager to share our commitment in delivering high quality services to our patients and assist in our ongoing development.

The Business Development Manager along with the 5 GP partners comprise the Leadership team. It is the role of the Business Development Manager to provide robust and competent business leadership with the support of the organisations management structure. The Business Development Manager, supported by the GP partners, is accountable and responsible for the whole non-clinical side of the business.

The purpose of the role is:

To ensure that Bowling Highfield Medical Practice meets its agreed business aims and objectives

To provide effective leadership, exceptional financial acumen, business strategy and management skills

To develop a profitable, efficient, and effective business

To drive change programmes for the benefit of the whole practice

To provide a working environment which is motivational, enjoyable and sustains the high morale of all team members

To facilitate effective communication between the different line managers

Main duties of the job

Create and manage a rolling five-year business plan.

Oversee and manage the finances to maximise income and control costs with the objective of increasing the partnerships profitability.

Manage and deliver all potential income generating schemes using well researched business plans.

Provide articulate communication and briefings to all staff to ensure the vision and objectives set out in the 5-year plan are clear and understood.

Ensure all legal matters are managed in a timely manner.

Ensure all submissions and returns are submitted on time.

Quality and Outcomes Framework and all target driven activity Liaise with our operational manager to deliver and manage the programme.

Work with the PCN members to deliver the primary care network contract directed enhanced service.

Oversee clinical database activity, the website and IT development for patients use.

Adopt a business and strategic approach to the management and development of patient services.

Ensure the Practice maintains high health and safety standards to ensure the wellbeing of team members, visitors, and patients and to adhere to legal requirements.

To ensure the whole team understand and adhere to the principle of confidentiality and that the Practice has the necessary policies and procedures in place to meet our legal obligations.

Scope of the Role

The Business Development Manager along with the 5 GP partners comprise the Leadership team. It is the role of the Business Development Manager to provide robust and competent business leadership with the support of the organisations management structure. The Business Development Manager, supported by the GP partners, is accountable and responsible for the whole non-clinical side of the business.

Key Activities

The Business Development Manager role has two dimensions:

  • To ensure, through effective management, that the day-to-day running of the business is carried out effectively and efficiently and with a positive team spirit.

  • To look beyond todays challenges and assimilate forthcoming changes, the impact they may have on Bowling Highfield Medical Practice and the opportunities that they may create. The Business Development Manager will facilitate the other members of the leadership team in decision making processes.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Mission - To ensure Bowling Highfield Medical Practice adheres to its mission statement: A progressive Medical Practice committed to growth through a team approach providing excellent patient care
  • Strategic Management and Planning - As a member of the leadership team, create and manage a rolling five-year business plan.

  • Financial Management - Oversee and manage the practice finances to maximise income and control costs with the objective of increasing the partnerships profitability. Provide financial forecasts and projections. Work closely with our finance manager to ensure the day-to-day management of the practice accounts, the submission of all statutory accounting processes, cash flow and recommendations of capital spend. Liaise with financial advisers such as bankers, accountants etc. Ensure the practice receives an appropriate and equitable allocation of financial resources.

  • Business Development - Manage and deliver all potential income generating schemes using clear, well researched business plans. Negotiate contracts and service level agreements. Write all associated documents, present plans externally to stakeholders and others and manage the on-going operational process. Assist and coordinate any potential future opportunities for practice expansion or mergers. Premise expansion and development including lease negotiation.

  • Communication Strategy - Provide articulate communication and briefings to all team members to ensure the vision and objectives set out in the 5-year business plan are clear and understood and that all staff are working towards the same goal. Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings with direct reports and ensure this process is cascaded. Ensure all external communications are in line with the ethos and culture of the business.

  • Organisation of Partnership - Arrange, chair, and organise all leadership team meetings to ensure effective team working. Take appropriate action to keep the team on track.

  • Legislative responsibilities - ensure all legal matters including (contracts, service level agreements, IOS registration and Care Quality Commission registration) are managed in a timely manner.

  • NHS and other submissions /returns - Ensure all submissions and returns are submitted on time, including NHS complaints return, Practice Declaration, NHS workforce and IG toolkit.

  • Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and all target driven activity Liaise with our operational manager to deliver and manage the QOF programme ensuring the highest levels of performance and service standards are achieved wherever possible. Track achievements and take corrective action as appropriate.

  • Primary Care Network - Work with the PCN members to deliver the primary care network contract directed enhanced service.

  • IT - Maximise the effective use of technology by adopting a strategic approach to its use. Keep abreast of IT developments within the sector and direct the leadership team as appropriate. Oversee clinical database activity (capture, collation, interrogation), the Bowling Highfield Medical Practice website and IT development for patients use. Work with centrally and locally commissioned services to provide IT security including back up maintenance and disaster recovery. Ensure the Practice is fully compliant with the requirements of GDPR.

  • Patient Services - With the support of the line managers, adopt a business and strategic approach to the management and development of patient services. Maintain records of registration, patient turnover and capitation. Oversee an effective patient appointment system and work with the leadership team to make the process as effective as possible.
