Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Salaried GP with excellent communication skills to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the PMS contract. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

About us

The Practice:

Tilehurst surgery has a diverse population of 14,800. We are active members of our Reading West PCN which has a total of 44,000 patients. We are a high earning reputable practice within easy reach of London and Oxford and with excellent local schools. The premises are practice-owned, purpose built (having had a major building extension completed in Autumn 2019).

The Team:

We have a very supportive multidisciplinary clinical team consisting of 4 GP Partners, 7 salaried GPs, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Associates, Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Physician Associates, First contact physiotherapists, Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomists,

We are well organised and adaptable to the ever-changing needs of General Practice. Medicine management is via our inhouse Pharmacist Team and home visits are conducted by our Paramedics and one of our Physician Associates. We have extremely helpful Receptionists and Administrators who manage the workload by taking on non-clinical work such as read coding and answering website queries.

Training:

We are a GP training practice and are keen for all our staff to continue to develop their roles. Specialist interests are actively encouraged, and we have GPs with interests in dermatology, rheumatology, and minor surgery. We teach medical students from Oxford University.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to conduct other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract

Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

Effective management of long-term conditions

Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

On a rotational basis, undertake duty doctor roles

Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) of the QOF

Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including; clinical governance, training, financial management and HR

Ensure compliance with the appraisal process

Prepare and complete the revalidation process

Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team

Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines

Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies

Encourage collaborative working, consulting with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to:

Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
