Job summary
Working in accordance with the NMC Code of
Conduct, the post-holder will collaborate
with the nursing team in the provision of assessment,
treatment, screening and advice to patients.
The post-holder will
have the required level of training and competence and will work within patient
group directions where these are available.
A nurse with prescribing qualifications will use them appropriately
within their own competencies only.
The post holder will endeavour to implement the
practice ethos by encouraging a working environment that promotes healthy, safe
and effective work outcomes. To also be a team player and advocate within the
MDT where necessary.
Main duties of the job
The general roles include but are not limited to the following:
Wound care assessment and
management
Ear syringing
Venepuncture.
Pathology samples send to the
pathology laboratory and/or test as appropriate in the surgery.
ECG
Hypertension management
Child and adult immunisations
Vaccinations: b12, hormone injections, NHS travel vaccinations
Screening - e.g. cervical
cytology, new patient registration health checks.
Health education and advice
e.g. smoking, alcohol, weight, diet, drugs, head lice, verrucas.
Telephone advice and support as
appropriate.
About us
The Parks Medical Practice is a well established four sites (3 rural and 1 urban), dispensing and training (GP
Registrars, FY-2 Drs and Medical and Nursing students) practice.
We have circa 22500 patients, cared for by an effective, dedicated, and
comprehensive primary healthcare team, which includes GPs, Practice Nurses,
Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescriber, Physiotherapist, Paramedic and Reception /
Administration team.
The Practice has a well-established service providing Community
Surgery Services, Non-Scalpel Vasectomies, Carpal Tunnel Decompression, and joint
injections in addition to usual lumps & bumps under NHS and Privately.
We are part of the ParkWood Primary Care Network (PCN) working collaboratively
with Denton Village Surgery and Wootton Surgery.

- Assess and treat patients with a range of health needs across the practice population
- Work with the wider nursing team to change policies and improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities
- Contribute to the improvement of services offered by the practice nursing team
- Contribute to the team in quality assurance, development and clinical governance.
- To take responsibility for own learning needs that are identified as relevant to the job role.
- Apply practice policies, standards and guidance
- Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
- Participate in audit where appropriate
- Off cover where possible and being flexible with your approach. Notifying themanager of any holidays and of any problems immediately
- Be familiar with the areas of the surgery computer system that they are required to use in order to carry out their duties
- Be polite and helpful at all times even under duress.
- Attend team meetings and other meetings relevant to their job.
- Maintain high levels of personal cleanliness and hygiene in a clinical environment.
The nurse will be have a range of clinical skills developed through experience and will be competent to deal with the general nursing care of the patients in the surgery according to practice policy and protocols and to refer to the GP as appropriate.
