Job summary
Llandaff North Medical Centre is a friendly, busy surgery located in Cardiff providing quality care to the surrounding population if around 6,500 people.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with medical knowledge to join our team. The role would involve processing referrals, patient recalls and coding clinical data on behalf of clinicians. An eye for detail and accurate recording is essential. Training will be given for suitable candidates with no previous experience.
You will need to be proficient in using Microsoft programmes and a working knowledge of VISION would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
Processing of incoming mail from NHS registrations
Processing of referrals.
Coding of clinical data on behalf of clinicians
Processing of patient recalls
Creating and running computer searches
Co-ordinating and implementing IT related initiatives
To instigate remedial action if any computer failures found.
Telephone answering to be courteous and helpful
To ensure any queries are passed to the appropriate member of staff, or doctor.
Filing records, letters, test results etc.
To ensure records, etc. required by the GPs and nurses are made available in a timely manner
About us
Llandaff North Medical Centre is a successful training practice located in Cardiff and provides healthcare to the surrounding population of around 6,500 people. The practice was built in 1997 and currently has 9 Doctors (4 partners, 3 salaried and 2 trainee GP's), 2 practice nurses, 1 Healthcare Assistant and a range of administrative staff.
The practice also has a range of NHS staff in the form of Health Visitors, Counsellors, Midwives, Pharmacist and community nurses who use our rooms to provide additional services to our patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Use of computerised medical system: checking: results, registration details, pathology information, medical information, prescribing information. Specific training will be given to staff with responsibility for entering data e.g. registrations etc.
Liaison with other professional colleagues e.g. District Nurses, Health Visitors, Ambulance Service, Hospitals, Midwives and to pass and receive accurate information regarding patients.
Message handling: ensure that accurate messages are taken and passed to appropriate person for action. Receptionist must ensure that any outstanding queries must be passed for action before going off duty.
To maintain confidentiality in respect of any information obtained by design or accident whether in connection with a patient or the practice.
To be flexible and to provide cover for absent colleagues when required.
Adhere to Health and Safety procedures as set out by the Practice.
Undertake any other reasonable miscellaneous duties as requested by the Practice Manager, Deputy Practice Manager, or Doctors.
Training full training will be given in the practice and attendance at relevant and interesting external courses will be offered. Attendance at training courses is expected, even when outside normal working rotas.
