An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accomplished and highly motivated Practice Nurse Lead with previous management experience and leadership skills to join our friendly and welcoming team.
The Practice Nurse Lead will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and support within our medical practice.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Lead Practice Nurse who will be responsible for ensuring delivery of safe and effective care to the whole practice population and development of the nursing services provided at the practice.
They will provide leadership and direction to the nursing team and develop the clinical practice of the practice nurse team in the provision of assessment, treatment, screening, and advise to patients. They will lead and manage the nursing resources, working closely with the GP Partners and Management team to deliver the overall practice priorities whilst providing a high standard of nursing care to patients. The candidate will have skills in developing and maintaining practice policies and protocols for all nursing activity. To be the infection control lead in the practice and ensure all staff are aware of current procedures.
They will focus on clinical delivery such as chronic disease management, health promotion , a range of treatment room skills including vaccinations, immunisations, family planning and women's health.
To work collaboratively with the whole Practice team ensuring that the care delivered to the Practice population is relevant, responsive, of the highest standard and is clinically effective and efficient.

Job responsibilities
- Routine immunisations and vaccinations given under a Patient Group Direction (with additional paediatric vaccination certification an advantage)
- Cervical Screening
- Contraceptive pill checks / sexual health
- Undertake long term condition reviews with appropriate training (eg Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, CKD, Hypertension)
- To deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice and risk assessments to patients prior to travel including illnesses, vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection
- Assist in the implementation and management of appropriate health and safety and infection control policies, as defined in local and national polices
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
- To delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately (ensuring safe practice and the task is within the scope of practice of the individual)
- Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate
- Take prompt and appropriate action on receipt of complaints as per GP Practice Policy and participate in investigation where required
- Manage the annual leave and roster for the nursing staff to maintain adequate nursing cover at all times.
- Take Lead responsibility for Clinical area/s infection control when a CQC inspection.
- Provide effective and dynamic leadership and management skills. Lead a team towards common objectives, advise and support other team members including the identification of development needs, taking appropriate action.

- Allocate, co-ordinate, monitor and assess the work of the nursing team and individuals
- Provide regular nurse team meetings & attend regular management meetings as required.
- Act as mentor/preceptor for clinicians in personal and professional development plans, and learners in their education programmes
