Job summary

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be shaped around your skills and experience. Ideally you will have experience of Wound Care, Cervical Cytology and Childhood Immunisations. Respiratory Diploma, Assessor Training and experience of SystmOne would be an advantage, but not essential.

We also welcome applications from newly qualified nurses or those looking to take their first step into a career in general practice. For the right person, we offer support, mentorship and training to develop the skills required and help you grow confidently into a treatment room nursing role.

Main duties of the job

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be shaped around your skills, experience and professional interests. Core areas of practice include:

  • Longterm condition management using evidence based care
  • Wound care and treatment room duties
  • Cervical cytology
  • Childhood and adult immunisations
  • Health promotion and wellbeing
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Contribution to clinical audits, policy development and quality improvement

Experience in respiratory care, diabetes or assessor and-or mentorship training would be an advantage, but these are not essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Practice Nurse will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to the registered patient population, with a particular focus on long-term conditions, health promotion and preventative care.

Working as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will ensure that nursing services are delivered effectively, safely and in accordance with national and local policies. All patients will be treated with dignity, respect and sensitivity to their individual needs, ensuring the highest possible standards of care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the following duties, working within their scope of practice and professional code of conduct:

Clinical Care

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with acute and long-term conditions using evidence-based practice
  • Provide care for frail, elderly and housebound patients
  • Deliver chronic disease management clinics and review patient outcomes
  • Deliver routine nursing care in line with NICE guidance and National Service Frameworks
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions as appropriate
  • Prescribe and administer medicines in accordance with PGDs and own competence
  • Deliver adult and childhood vaccination programmes
  • Assist GPs with minor surgery where required
  • Recognise, assess and refer patients with mental health needs
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion and preventative care

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Support the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead in implementing the IPC policy
  • Participate in IPC audits, training and compliance monitoring
  • Contribute to the production of the annual IPC statement

Clinical Governance and Quality

  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records in line with legislation and best practice
  • Ensure effective use of clinical coding and maintenance of disease registers
  • Participate in significant event and near-miss reviews, including root cause analysis
  • Continually review and improve clinical practice in response to national guidance

Leadership and Team Working

  • Support and advise members of the nursing team
  • Participate in appraisals and identify training and development needs
  • Help lead and support service improvement initiatives within the nursing team
  • Delegate duties appropriately, ensuring safe practice and competence

Safeguarding and Professional Responsibilities
