Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to join our dynamic, friendly nursing team at Paxton Medical Group.

We are a growing practice serving a population of over 20,000 patients across three sites; Claughton, Fender Way and Townfield.

You will be working in an experienced, well established nursing team within a training practice.

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Hours: Full time or part time considered

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) plays a vital role within the general practice team, supporting GPs, nurses, and other clinicians to deliver high quality patient care. The post holder will carry out a range of clinical and administrative duties, always working within their level of competence and under appropriate supervision.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Physiological Measurements (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, blood glucose, INR).

  • Undertaking health checks

  • Vaccinations

  • Collection of specimens (urine samples, swabs)

  • Phlebotomy

  • ECGs, peak flow testing, and other delegated diagnostic tasks (depending on training).

  • Assisting with long term condition reviews (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) under nurse supervision.

  • Wound care and simple dressings

  • Contributing to QOF, enhanced services, and practice wide clinical targets

  • Perform vital signs monitoring: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, oxygen saturation.

  • Carry out phlebotomy (if trained).

    • GCSE (or equivalent) grade A to C in English and Maths
    • NVQ level 2/3

    Desirable

    • Qualification / proven competencies in the following clinical skills, or willingness to develop them:
    • Phlebotomy
    • Vaccination administration including Flu, Pneumonia, and Shingles
    • Wound care
    • Removal of sutures / staples
    • ECG
    • Health checks
    • INR testing

    Experience

    Essential

    • Experience in a healthcare or care setting.
    • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Basic IT skills and ability to use clinical systems (training provided).
    • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
    • Compassionate, patient focused approach.

    Desirable

    • Previous experience in primary care.
    • Phlebotomy qualification.
    • Experience with EMIS/SystmOne.
    • Care Certificate or equivalent.
