Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist (35 hrs per week)

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our dynamic team at Cardigan Health Centre for 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for performing venepuncture during morning clinics. In the afternoon, they will autonomously run their own clinics, managing patient care independently. This role requires a confident and skilled HCA who can work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and techniques, along with excellent patient service skills. As a Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist, you will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of patients while assisting with various clinical tasks.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform venepuncture accurately and safely during clinics, demonstrating proven competence in this skill
  • Record and monitor vital signs
  • Conduct ECGs and ensure accurate recording and reporting of results
  • Provide basic wound care and dressing changes following clinical guidelines
  • Administer vaccines safely and in line with practice protocols
  • Administer vitamin B12 injections autonomously within own clinic sessions
  • Monitor and manage patients with hypertension, including patient education and follow-up, running independent HTN clinics
  • Manage and run independent clinics (e.g., HTN and B12) autonomously with full responsibility for patient care, documentation and reporting
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and manage data entry with attention to detail
  • Exhibit good organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data protection
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of clinical areas, adhering strictly to infection control and health and safety policies
  • Participate actively in ongoing training (E-Learning) and professional development to keep skills current and comply with safeguarding requirements

About us

Cardigan Health Centre has approximately 10,400 patients. We are a GP training practice and we are based within the new Cardigan Integrated Care Centre. We strive to deliver the highest quality healthcare to our patients, through continuous training and development of all staff.

We are a short walk away from Cardigan town and only a few miles drive away from many beaches!

We work alongside other service providers in the Integrated Care Centre, which include MIU, Xray, Physiotherapy, Sexual Health, Outpatients and District Nurses.

Our team is made up of 4 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 3 ANPs, 3 Nurses, HCA and a Phlebotomist, who all work alongside our large Reception and Admin team.

We use EMIS Web clinical system. Full training will be provided.
