Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team at Cardigan Health Centre.
We are looking for an individual who is clinically skilled in venepuncture and who may want to develop their skills to carry out Healthcare Support Worker tasks when required.
Candidates must have undertaken venepuncture training and have a minimum of 1 year experience. General Practice experience desirable.
Working under the direction of the Partners and Senior Nurse and as part of the Practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested. In addition, you will be expected to support the Nursing team and HCSW as required.
You will need to be a team player with excellent communication, IT and organisational skills. You must have a positive attitude and commitment to General Practice and the wider NHS.
Main duties of the job
This is a part-time position, 15 hours per week.
Working days and times: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9am - 2pm.
You must be flexible to cover annual leave and sickness when required, which is sometimes at short notice.

Cardigan Health Centre is based in the new Cardigan Integrated Care Centre. We are a short walk away from Cardigan high street, Cardigan castle and the River Teifi and only a 2 mile drive to Patch Beach and a 4 mile drive to Poppit Sands!

Job Summary
The phlebotomist will work as part of the Primary Healthcare team to deliver venepuncture, along with other clinical services within the scope of a phlebotomist to our registered patients.
Main Responsibilities
Provide venepuncture service to our registered patients
Provide height, weight, blood pressure measurement service
Chaperone patients for other clinical practitioners, when required
Assisting other clinical practitioners in vaccination and immunisation clinics
Maintaining the clinical environment by:
o Ensuring clinical rooms are clean and prepared before use
o Cleaning and preparing clinical equipment
o Managing clinical stock control with the HCSW
o Maintaining vaccine / cold chain storage
Ensuring efficiency and safety by providing administrative support for the appointments system, clinics and patients records
Notifying an appropriate GP / Nurse of any significant patient issues or changes in the patients observations
Processing and managing specimens / samples
Always working within own level of competence
Carry out other clinical tasks, as requested by clinical practitioners that are within the phlebotomists scope
Carry out other administrative tasks, as requested by the Partners and Managers
Contribute new ideas to improve patient care
Interact with patients and colleagues in a professional manner
Appreciate the principles of Healthy Living and provide relevant health promotion literature for patients
Maintain set standards in the practice and take action if standards are not being met

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory, contractual, professional requirements and good Practice guidelines
Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements
Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols
Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage and disposal
Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean, sterile and safe way, free from hazards.
Actively identifying, reporting and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised and escalation to responsible management
