Job summary

We welcome applications in a rare opportunity to join us in a GP Partnership role at Potterells Medical Centre. Due to planned retirement in April 2026, we are seeking 2 new Partners to join our team for 6 to 8 sessions per week each.

Main duties of the job

As a GP partner you will play a pivotal role in both clinical care and strategic leadership. You will be involved in shaping the future of the practice, contributing to decision-making and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate healthcare. We recognise the opportunities but also the challenges of starting a career as a GP Partner. You will be offered a full induction period, regular monitoring sessions and access to relevant training courses. The successful candidate will be expected to share ownership of the premises.

About us

We are a large, well established training practice based in North Mymms, Hertfordshire with easy access to the A1M. We serve a total population of around 17,400 patients with a branch surgery at the University of Hertfordshire, serving 8000 registered students.

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed GP Partners to join our successful, patient-focused practice. This semi-rural setting offers a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality primary care to a diverse community while contributing to the strategic and clinical leadership of our well-established practice. Our clinical team includes 6 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, 4 Prescribing Nurses, 1 Practice nurse, 2 Health Care Assistants, ARRS Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, Social Prescribers, Care Co-Ordinator, Health and Wellbeing Coaches and First Contact Physiotherapy.

Job description

Job responsibilities

There will be a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

b. The provision of services commensurate with the GP contract

c. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

d. Effective management of long-term conditions

e. Process administration in a timely manner including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

f. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

g. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

h. Take responsibility for continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the organisation

i. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

j. Attend and contribute effectively to external and internal meetings as required

k. Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the organisation including clinical governance, training, financial management and HR

l. Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice

m. Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times

n. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement

o. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles

p. Contribute to the effective management of the organisation including administration, planning, strategy, resilience planning etc.

q. Show leadership qualities, work collaboratively, ensure an even distribution of the organisations workload

r. Remain fully focused on the strategic aims of the organisation, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

s. Prepare and attend partnership meetings contributing in a positive manner

t. Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes

u. Attend a formal appraisal at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
