Featherstone Family Health
Centre serves a population of approximately 5000 patients and we are
looking for a part-time flexible and enthusiastic Receptionist to join our
friendly Practice Team. Acting as the Practices first point of contact and the
ability to signpost patients to the correct service/healthcare professional is
imperative. The successful candidate will provide a high quality reception
service to patients, doctors and colleagues.
Previous experience in this
type of role and knowledge of EMIS Web and Docman would be an advantage,
although not essential as training will be provided.
The post available is for 20 hours per week, days to be agreed.
There is an essential
requirement for the successful candidate to provide cover for holidays and
sickness at short notice.
Main duties of the job
Handling phone calls,
managing appointments, and directing patients to the correct services or
clinicians.Key duties include providing patient care, maintaining administrative
systems, processing prescriptions, and ensuring confidentiality.The role also involves acting as a "care
navigator," assessing patient needs, offering self-help advice, or
signposting to other community services to ensure timely and appropriate care.

Job PurposeTo provide a welcoming, efficient, and professional reception service for patients and visitors. The GP Receptionist is the first point of contact for the practice and plays a vital role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations by supporting patients, doctors, nurses, and administrative staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Interaction

Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.

Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously, directing them as appropriate.

Book, amend, and cancel appointments using the practices clinical system.

Manage patient queries, requests, and concerns with empathy and discretion.

Assist with patient registration, updating records, and processing changes of details.
Administration & Record Keeping

Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with GDPR and practice policies.

Process repeat prescription requests following established procedures.

Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails, letters, and clinical documents.

Support the organisation of clinics, recalls, and screening programmes.
Practice Support

Work collaboratively with the GP team, nurses, and other staff to ensure efficient service delivery.

Provide administrative support for audits, reports, and clinical tasks as required.

Assist with opening and closing the surgery, ensuring security procedures are followed.

Monitor and maintain supplies of reception materials (e.g., forms, leaflets, stationery).
