The role of HCA is an essential part of our GP Practice team who provide the full range of NHS Primary Medical Services. You will be working alongside our friendly and patient focused clinical and administration teams, providing an essential support function and delivering the best care to all our patients. You must work with autonomy and a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, discretion, empathy and tact.

Main duties of the job
Working under supervision of our Practice Nurses and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing a range of procedures and health-checks for patients, dependent upon competency and training.
These may include: phlebotomy, injections, blood pressure monitoring, simple dressings and ECGs. The role will also include administrative elements such as fridge checking, ordering supplies etc. The role is varied, interesting and allows relationships to be built with regular patients.

-The post-holder will work as a member of the Health Care Team offering directed treatments to meet the needs of patients under indirect supervision of the Registered Practice Nurse and/or General Practitioner.

Working within agreed protocols and after being assessed as competent, carry out:
-Phlebotomy
-Measurement of blood pressure
-Measurement of height, weight and girth
-Urine analysis
-Simple dressings
-ECGs
-Vaccinations
-Undertake any other clinical activities identified by the Nursing Team or Partners in accordance with written guidelines and within competencies.
-Assist in the running of chronic disease management clinics.
-Act as an assistant for fitting contraceptive implants and Coils.
-Undertake domiciliary visits to carry out procedures identified as being within competencies.
-Act as Chaperone when required.
Clerical
-Play the major role in maintaining practice records of patients basic health data: identify missing information; together with colleagues plan and carry out the gathering of such data.
-Maintain, store and retrieve record both manual and computerised.
-Record information on the computer system.
House-Keeping
-Prepare clinical areas, including instrument preparation, for specific clinical sessions
-Maintain and organise minor ops consulting area
-Maintain and control stock levels of equipment and materials according to the needs of the practice
General responsibilities
-To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.
-To have a thorough knowledge of the computer system.
-To work in accordance of written protocols
