Job summary

As a Practice Nurse or Nurse Associate, you will run your own clinics at the surgery with a mix of telephone/online and face to face appointments. We have a great support network, both clinically and administratively. You will be joining our current clinical team of 2 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 1 ANP, 1 NP, 1 Practice Nurse and 1 HCA. We are a teaching and research practice. We are offering a good salary (depending on experience) NHS pension, annual leave and bank holidays (pro rata). We are part of the Fens and Brecks PCN.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a caring, compassionate and committed experienced nurse who, acting within the boundaries of their role, will provide a high standard of care for our patients. They will carry out long term condition reviews, immunisations, phlebotomy, smear tests, wound care etc while demonstrating safe, competent, and expert care for patients within the general practice. They will communicate and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary practice team to meet the needs of patients while supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Practice Nurse/Nurse Associate will work as part of the Primary Healthcare Team providing personal medical services to the patients of the Practice.

Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care/ulcer care/removal of sutures
  • New patient medicals/urinalysis
  • Hearing tests
  • Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations
  • Venepuncture
  • Chaperoning/assisting patients where appropriate
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Diabetes or other long term conditions and Contraception reviews
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to Senior Nurse/GPs as appropriate
  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures and ability to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse and safeguarding concerns
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels/other stock as appropriate
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Advise Senior Nurse of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
  • Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by NMC
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
