Job summary

Newhall Surgery is looking for a dynamic and motivated part time Pharmacy Technician (15 to 22.5 hours per week) to join our Pharmacy Team consisting of a Senior Clinical Pharmacist and a Clinical Pharmacist.

Our ideal candidate acts within their professional boundaries, supporting and working alongside a team of pharmacists in General Practice. In this role they will be supported by a Senior Clinical Pharmacist who will develop, manage and mentor them.

The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient facing role. The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care. You will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in general practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide support to general practice staff with regards to prescription and medication queries. Carry out medicine switches in line with practice and ICB agreed specific protocols reviewing patient's records, amending records and informing patients.They will help support the repeat prescriptions system promoting electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering. Carry out housekeeping whilst in patient records eg dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation.

The post holder will be the first port of call to answer and deal with any medicines related queries from administration and reception staff plus any medicines related queries from dispensary staff. The aim of which is to improve the quality of care for our patients and operational efficiencies within the PCN, so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service to patients within General Practice.

Newhall Surgery has a list size of approximately 11,200 patients. We have an active Patient Participation Group and endeavour to liaise well within the local community. We are active on Facebook and have good reviews within NHS Choices.

Our clinical staff consists of 3 GP Partners, 5 GPs, 3 GP Registrars, 1 Foundation Year 2 Doctor plus a dedicated Nursing Team, Pharmacy Team, a Health & Wellbeing Coach and a Patient Care Coordinator.

We also have committed administrative, secretarial and care navigation members, plus our dedicated and professional Management Team which consists of a Business Manager, Practice Manager, Patient Services Team Leader and 2 Management Assistants.

We are a friendly Practice who believe that communication, team working, well-being and learning are vital to the success of our organisation. We have two formal 'get togethers' per year with other socials to help support our internal communication processes and the feeling of 'family' within the organisation, plus monthly training events.

The Partners are very supportive of staff and place a high value on their well-being, learning and development.

We are proud to have been awarded a rating of 'Good' at our recent CQC Inspection.

For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH) or courses approved by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) as meeting the requirements of the UK-wide APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians
