Qualified General Practice Assistants (GPAs) will have completed their City and Guilds Certificate. The role forms part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care, and provide a support role, carrying out administrative tasks, combined in some areas with basic clinical duties, helping to free up GPs time and contribute to the smooth running of appointments, improving patients experience in the surgery.

Qualified GPAs support:
Phlebotomy
Blood pressure monitoring and support in hypertension review clinics
Patients by offering lifestyle advice in relation to weight, lipid management, alcohol and exercise
Information gathering from patients
Infection control
Maintaining a well-stocked clinical environment
Immunisation within PCN vaccination services
New patient health checks
NHS health checks and enhanced health checks
Completion of referral forms to services such as ADHD, autism services, and routine chronic disease referrals such as diabetes eye screening
Filing of routine results according to level of training and competency
Feno testing

Central & West Warrington Primary Care Network (CWW PCN) is a collaborative group of 7 Practices who work together to care for a population of approximately 67,000 patients. The PCN is highly organised and proactive. The Clinical Director is supported by a PCN Manager and Digital & Transformation Lead.

Job responsibilities
As a qualified GPA main duties will include:
Phlebotomy
Blood pressure monitoring and support in hypertension review clinics
Offering patients lifestyle advice in relation to weight, lipid management, alcohol and exercise
Information gathering from patients
Understanding of clinical indemnity, vicarious liability in relation to personal and professional practice
Infection control
Maintaining a well-stocked clinical environment
Immunisation within PCN vaccination services
New patient health checks
NHS health checks and enhanced health checks

Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy
Completing forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance, mortgage and benefits agency forms etc
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. contacting on call colleagues for advice and arranging admissions etc.
