Job summary
We are a friendly, rural Practice looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist with flexibility to offer ad-hoc cover during holidays and work based placements.
Main duties of the job
To assist
the practice team in the delivery of direct patient care, ensuring that patient
safety and well-being is always respected.
Communicate
courteously and effectively with patients, relatives and carer's in the language
of their choice.
Ensure
that the Practice Treatment room is kept clean and tidy and that the equipment
is in working order, clean and available for use.
Carry
out health assessments on newly registered patients e.g. testing urine, blood
pressure checks, heights, weights and taking simple medical history.
Report,
and document, all matters pertaining to patient care, changes in condition/circumstances, to a
relevant member of the nursing or medical team.
Undertake
phlebotomy, carry out ECGs, blood pressure checks, INRs, blood glucose
testing, cardiac and ABP monitoring and urinalysis.
Act
with regard to confidentiality and sensitivity of issues relating to patients,
their care and treatment.
Record
and document all patient contacts.
Have
knowledge of, and act, within the boundaries of health and safety and data
protection legislation.
To
ensure proactive health promotion.
To
maintain up to date CPR/life support competencies.
Provide
ear care advice and treatment of wax desirable not essential.
Administer
dressings/wound care in accordance with infection control policy - desirable
not essential.
About us
Hartington Surgery is a small, but
busy, rural General Practice which is in the heart of the Peak District
National Park close to the Derbyshire, Staffordshire border.
The Practice is fully dispensing and
holds a General Medical Services contract to provide a range of medical care to
approximately 3300 patients. The varied population is employed in farming,
quarrying, leisure, and tourism as well as being central for commuting to towns
and cities in each direction.
There is a small enthusiastic,
experienced team comprising of GP Principal, Sessional GP's, Practice Manager, Nurses,
Receptionists and Dispensers. The strong team work closely with each other and
have built good working relationships.
The Practice has been rated as
Outstanding by CQC and there is a commitment to deliver safe, excellent
personal patient care and health promotion, offering respect and dignity in a
friendly atmosphere whilst promoting equality and diversity in an inclusive
setting.
The Practice is innovative and
forward thinking and proactively embraces change and new technology.
Premises are all on one level and are

NVQ in Primary Health Care or Completion of 15 core standards of Care Certificate
Experience
of working in a health care environment and involvement in the delivery of health
care and phlebotomy.
