Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly, experienced nursing team. You will be a caring, professional treatment room nurse who thrives on working in a busy environment and enjoys the variety of primary care.

In addition to general treatment room procedures, you will also be our Infection Control lead undertaking regular audits and providing training update to all staff.

The post is for two and a half days a week worked as follows: all day on Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday morning.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to undertake general treatment room duties. As a minimum these will include: childhood and adult immunisations, wound care, dressings, leg ulcer care, suture removal, cervical screening and ECGs.

You will also be our Infection Control lead.

We are a well established six-partner Practice with approximately 11,000 patients based in modern purpose-built premises with ample free car parking.

Alongside our partners we have dedicated Nursing and admin/reception teams. Our ethos is very much about providing the best possible care to our patients and being supportive and caring towards our staff.

In addition to the above teams, we also have additional clinical support from a Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Mental Health Practitioner.

We are an EMIS practice, rated GOOD by CQC and our patient satisfaction results have been the highest in Bucks in both the 2022 and 2023 National Patient Survey.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working as a member of the clinical team, in accordance with specific guidance and practice protocols, the Practice Nurse will ensure the effective provision and delivery of general nursing services to the patient population.

The Practice Nurse will also be the Infection Control lead for the Practice, ensuring that all staff are trained as appropriate and regular audits are undertaken as per regulatory guidance.

The post holder will also support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the role:

ECG recording

Phlebotomy (occasional)

Blood pressure monitoring

Dressing and wound management and assessment using doppler

Suture removal

Smear taking

Baby immunisations service

Injections: B12, influenza, covid, pneumococcal vaccines

Travel vaccines (if qualified)

Processing and management of samples as required

Vaccine/cold storage, monitoring, and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking clinical rooms

Chaperoning duties

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and wellbeing

Helping to raise awareness of health and wellbeing and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients

Maintain accurate clinical records at all times

Support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies

Liaise with other members of the nursing team to support each other in the provision of services

There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
