An exciting
opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Physician Associate
to join our friendly, dedicated and established team based in Chesham.
As a member of our clinical team you will be working alongside our GPs and other allied healthcare professionals to provide the very best patient care.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to work independently, within the scope of their professional boundaries, to assess and manage patients. You will be providing assessment, treatment, and diagnosis to patients via telephone and face-to-face consultations. Consultations will be held in surgery clinics, and home visits.
You will need to demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care including assessment and diagnostic skills. There will be a need to prioritise and triage the needs of patients making any necessary referrals for investigations as appropriate.
You will need to be a qualified Physician Associate, with a PG diploma or MSc in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised UK or US programme, and to have passed the UK physician associate national exam.
About us
The New Surgery is a stable six-partner Practice supported by an excellent, dedicated team of nurses and admin /reception team.We also benefit from a wide multi-disciplinary team, including clinical support from a Pharmacist, Physiotherapist and Mental Health Practitioner.
We are a GMS practice, with a list size of 11,000, based in a purpose-built medical centre in Chesham with free parking available on site.We share the premises with another GP surgery and a dentist.There is also a pharmacy on the ground floor.
We are an EMIS practice, rated GOOD by CQC.We were recently voted the Best Practice in Bucks in the 2022 National Patient Survey.

Job responsibilities
The
following are the main responsibilities of this role. The job holder will
always work within their scope of clinical practice. There may be, on occasion,
a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors
such as workload and staffing levels:
- Provide
care for presenting patients from initial history-taking and clinical
assessment through to diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care

Provide
a holistic clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing
agreed management plans and following approved protocols as appropriate

Provide
health/disease promotion and prevention advice, alongside analysing and
actioning diagnostic test results

Develop
integrated patient-centred care through appropriate working with the wider
primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks

Utilise
clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical
audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks

Undertake
home visits when required

Develop
and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to
practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision

Receive
referrals and directed patients from triage services and other clinicians

Manage
a caseload of complex patients and potential care institutions

Plan,
implement and evaluate treatment/interventions for patients with acute and
chronic physical and psychological conditions

Utilise
as needed the full range of non-drug therapies for all patients, consider
pharmacological interventions and make recommendations to prescribers in
accordance with evidence-based practice and national, local and practice
protocols

health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex,
urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency
care

patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles

those at risk of admission and re-admission to secondary care
