Job summary

An Advanced Nurse Prescriber (ANP) is a highly skilled and experienced registered nurse who provides autonomous, patient-centred care. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medication for patients with acute and chronic conditions within their scope of practice.

Advanced Nurse Prescribers work collaboratively with GPs, practice nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality clinical care in primary care settings, hospitals, or community services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and clinical examination

  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses

  • Prescribe medications independently in line with current guidelines

  • Request and interpret diagnostic tests

  • Develop and implement treatment plans

  • Provide health promotion and disease prevention advice

  • Refer patients to specialists or other services where appropriate

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records
