Main duties of the job

As a Salaried GP (9 month fixed term maternity cover) at Newpark Surgery, you will:

  • Provide high quality clinical care for patients through face to face, telephone, and video consultations.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of acute, chronic, and complex conditions.
  • Undertake appropriate clinical examinations, investigations, and treatment planning.
  • Participate in the duty doctor rota to support same day urgent care and on the day clinical decision making.
  • Work closely with our multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, pharmacists, mental health practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure safe and coordinated care.
  • Review and action pathology results, clinical correspondence, and repeat prescription requests in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes, following local and national policies and escalation pathways.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, MDT discussions, and quality improvement activities.
  • Support continuity and patient experience during the maternity cover period.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date clinical records in line with GMC guidance and practice protocols.
  • Adhere to professional standards, clinical governance requirements, and practice policies throughout the fixed term period.

The postholder will work as part of the clinical team at Newpark Surgery, providing safe, high quality primary care to a diverse patient population of approximately 12,500 patients. This is a fixed term 9month maternity cover role, offering an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive, forward thinking practice with a strong focus on teamwork, continuity, and patientcentred care.

The role involves managing routine and urgent clinical presentations, supporting sameday demand, contributing to clinical governance activities, and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to maintain safe and effective service delivery during the maternity leave period.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
  • Provide consultations via face to face, telephone, and video appointments.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute, chronic, and complex patient presentations across the full spectrum of primary care.
  • Undertake clinical examinations, request appropriate investigations, and develop treatment plans.
  • Provide safe, evidence based prescribing in line with local and national guidance.
  • Support long term condition management alongside the nursing and pharmacy teams.
  • Contribute to the duty doctor rota, delivering same day access and urgent clinical care.
Teamworking & Collaboration
  • Work closely with GPs, ANPs, nurses, pharmacists, mental health practitioners, HCAs, and administrative colleagues.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and shared care discussions.
  • Support continuity of care throughout the maternity cover period.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative practice culture.
Clinical Governance & Safety
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely clinical records in line with GMC and practice standards.
  • Support clinical governance, including audits, quality improvement projects, and learning activities.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, escalate concerns appropriately, and participate in safeguarding processes.
  • Contribute to safe systems of work and risk management activities within the practice.
Education, Development & Contribution to the Practice
  • Participate in clinical meetings, protected learning time, and wider professional development opportunities.
  • Support trainees, students, or newer clinicians as appropriate to your experience.
  • Maintain up to date clinical knowledge and meet CPD and revalidation requirements.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Action pathology results, clinical correspondence, and repeat prescription queries in a timely manner.
