Job summary
The Oaks Medical Centre is recruiting to employ a Health Care Assistant for 30 hours per week.
To
provide Health Care Assistant (HCA) services to the practice population(s).
Supported
by the nursing team within the practice, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) will
deliver care within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with
specific practice guidelines and protocols.
They
will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of
patients and support the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing HCA
guidance as required.
Main duties of the job
Responsible
for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical
decision making within the parameters of their qualifications and role
requirements.
They
will focus upon supporting patients to be healthy by assessing their needs,
providing HCA care, health education advice, screening activities, implementing
care at the surgery, community or other settings, maintaining clinically
accurate records and running clinics.

The Oaks Medical Centre we have 64 members of staff which include GP's,Nurses,
Paramedics, Physicians Associates, Management Team, Receptionist, Prescribers,
Data and Admin team and Secretary teams.

are also part of KEN PCN, meaning we also have PCN staff working here such as,
physician associates, care coordinators etc.

Job responsibilities
To
take and, where appropriate, despatch laboratory specimens including blood,
urine, swabs and other diagnostic tests as required by GPs. Making sure they
are ready for collection by the designated collection time, or alternatively
storing them in the fridge for next day collection.
Setting
up the ECG machine to take ECGs and making sure that they have been analysed by
a GP.
To
advise patients on health care, minor ailments, health promotion and illness
prevention.
To
undertake basic wound care and suture/clip removal, assisting the nurses.
To
undertake NHS Health checks
To
undertake Long Term Condition reviews - such as diabetic reviews.
To
maintain high standards of tidiness, hygiene and safety in the use of all
equipment and areas of work, in line with the Practice Health and Safety
policy, Infection Control Policy as well as all other Practice policies and
procedures.
To
undertake any additional duties as may from time to time be deemed necessary,
including working across sites.
To
liaise with and communicate effectively with other members of the Primary
Health Care Team.
