We are expanding our reception team! We are recruiting 2 enthusiastic and committed team players for the role of Medical Receptionist/Care navigator.
Recent general practice medical reception experience would be an advantage.
2 part-time positions - hours negotiable.
Hours of work; Monday - Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 6:30pm
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to:
Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Receive, assist and signpost patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

Whitburn Surgery are run by South Tyneside Health Collaboration - a federation of South Tyneside GP Practices, which already runs another practice in the borough.
There may be a need to work across our other sites based in South Tyneside.
The successful candidate will work alongside our existing reception team overseen by our Practice Manager.
We are a supportive and friendly team of professionals who put patient care and staff well being at the forefront.
We provide on-going training for staff.
The successful candidate will be able to work using their own initiative, have good resilience skills, together with being an excellent team member.
They must be able to communicate and engage effectively with all team members and external agencies as well as our patients.

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice reception team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the senior administrator/office manager/practice manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
- Processing requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations in person or via telephone/eConsult/emails whilst ensuring callers are signposted appropriately or directed to the most suitable healthcare professional
- Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
- Taking messages and passing on information
- Filing and retrieving paperwork
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
- Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning
- Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
- Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
