Job summary

We are a teaching practice (medical students & GP Trainees) based in a modern building in Barking, close to public transport links to Central London. Our current list size is just over 9600 patients.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking salaried GP/s, experienced or newly qualified, to join our friendly, supportive, multidisciplinary team.- which includes GPs, ANPs, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist, HCA and a team of reception and administration staff.

The practice is an active member of a supportive and collaborative Primary Care Network with a team of ARRS staff employed by the PCN including First Contact Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists, Care-Coordinators and Social Prescribing .

Salary negotiable circa £11,500-£12,500/session per annum - (newly qualified welcome).

Main duties of the job

The post-holder/s will be expected to undertake a variety of duties including telephone/ video/face-to-face/online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home ( low home visit rate), checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;

Will also be expected to participate in audits and Quality Improvement work and practice meetings.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including routine surgery consultations and emergencies, either in person or by telephone and video consultations , visiting patients at home (low home visit rate), checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, actioning patient test results, liaising with secretary/admin team regarding referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations;

Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards;

Collecting data for audit purposes;

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.

In general, the post-holder is expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities with the Practice:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, QOF, CQC.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice;

Keep a portfolio;

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation;

Attending training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. Enhanced Services, QOF, audit etc.)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A vocationally trained and accredited GP, preferably with MRCGP
  • Current registration with the GMC and appropriate representation with a recognised medical defence organisation
  • Current DBS (Enhanced children & adults list)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong levels of IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses EMIS Web). Experience in using the Microsoft suite of programmes;
  • Ability to handle a busy and varied primary care case load;
  • An understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process(QOF) and Enhanced Services, understanding of Primary Care Networks and ICBs

  • Experience and an interest in a specific disease area
  • An interest/qualification in teaching and supervision
