Job summary

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

New patient health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Ordering and returning of equipment requiring sterilisation

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations and ENT clinics

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Smoking cessation advice

Weight monitoring

About us

Jubilee Medical is an established GP practice based in Newton Aycliffe with branch sites in Shildon and Eldon Lane. The practice is passionate about providing additional services to our local community, currently offering consultant led Paediatric and ENT clinics, out of hours access and home visits (including weekends and bank holidays) to all patients registered within our Primary Care Network. We also have a dedicated team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners supporting our local care homes ensuring our elderly population receive the appropriate clinical care and monitoring on a weekly basis. The practice has been operating as a Covid Vaccination Site since December 2020.

Working under the direct supervision of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (or the Practice Nurse in her absence) and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
