Job summary

JOB TITLE: Healthcare Assistant / Phlebotomist

HOURS: Full time / Part Time (Negotiable)

LOCATION: Fitzalan Medical Centre, Wick Surgery and Primary Care Network (inc Angmering & Coppice Surgeries)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Nurse Manager and ACF Partners

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist trained clinical staff to care for patients at the surgery.

To undertake delegated tasks independently as directed by a qualified Nurse or Doctor once deemed competent by the surgery

To report to the nursing/clinical staff any changes or concerns about patients immediately

To work as a team member demonstrating a consistent high level of interpersonal and communication skills.

To maintain high standards of professionalism.

To maintain skill/competence and undertake appropriate training in order to achieve this i.e: the HCA Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or 3 (training can be given).

To work safely, legally and ethically with respect to the cultural, emotional and diverse needs of others

Main duties of the job

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Phlebotomy/butterfly blood sampling

Simple Dressings

ECGs

Blood pressure monitoring Urine testing/Sample collection/ Preparation of specimens ready for collection

Peak Flow recording

Height/Weight/BMI recording

Assist in medical emergencies e.g. CPR

Computer information input

Assisting nurses / doctors with complex procedures

Provide advice and support to patients and carers where appropriate and within own levels of competence

Ensure clinical waste is placed for collection

Stock Control Restock cupboards/ordering stock

Maintain supplies in Consulting and Treatment rooms

Attend and participate in Nursing and Clinical team meetings

Attend appropriate training and updates

Complete HCA Core Competency training

Adopt a flexible attitude to take account of changes within the service
