Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Urgent Care/Minor Illness Nurse, to join our busy practice.

This role is to join our other Urgent Care Nurse in practice, working 20nhours over 3 days.

Main duties of the job

To provide an urgent care and minor illnesses resource for health care professionals and service users, working in collaboration with other members of the team.

You will work in the Practice, undertaking clinical assessments, diagnosis and treatment, delivering quality patient services.

You must be able to apply safe clinical decision making and expert care, whilst remaining within your professional boundary.

Use your clinical skills to provide education to service users, promoting self-care and empower them to make informed choices about their care.

About us

The Practice is known for its pro-active approach within Primary Care and the Primary Care Network, and has a patient population of circa 17,000 patients.

The following are the core responsibilities of an Urgent Care Practitioner. There may be occasions when there is a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent on factors such as workload, staffing levels and direction of the Clinical Team or Manager:

  • Independently assess, diagnose, treat, refer, signpost and discharge patients and service users
  • Provide specialist advice relating to minor illness and/or injury
  • Provide routine care to patients, as required, in accordance with clinical based evidence and NICE guidelines
  • Ensure clinical treatment is safe, effective and conducted within the boundaries of competence, and to acknowledge limitations
  • Undertake telephone triage
  • Ensure personal and professional clinical standards are maintained
  • Adapt styles of communication in order to empower self-management and health education for patients
  • Participate in vaccination programmes, vaccinating patients in the Practice, and/or on home visits
  • Formally and informally, impart knowledge and skills to colleagues, promoting peer review and best practice within the working environment
  • Communicate at all levels within the team, ensuring an effective service is delivered
  • Ensure evidence based care is delivered at the highest standard, ensuring delivery of the highest quality patient care
  • Work within Practice policies and procedures
  • Enhance own performance through continuous professional development, imparting own knowledge and behaviours to meet the needs of the service

  • Registered Nurse with NMC
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber
  • Hold an ENP/ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Experience of working across a variety of multidisciplinary teams
