Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCA (Health Care Assistant) to join our fantastic nursing team at Leatside Health Centre. The role is for 30hrs, days and timings to be agreed Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for candidates who have experience of working in Primary Care, are NVQ Level 3 qualified, and the ability to undertake all aspects of the role contained in the job description. The successful applicant must be flexible, be able to use their own initiative and be able to work under pressure.

The Practice is known for its pro-active approach within Primary Care and the Primary Care Network, and has a patient population of circa 16,500 patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The primary purpose of the post is to provide services to patients who require a variety of treatments and/or tests including phlebotomy, vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, health checks, dressings, and ECGs.

Key responsibilities

  • BP monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • Diabetic foot checks
  • ECG recording
  • Simple wound dressing
  • Phlebotomy
  • Learning Disability Health Checks
  • Influenza, pneumococcal immunisation, and B12 injections
  • Vaccine cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Providing lifestyle advice to patients, making necessary referrals to clinical team
  • Measuring and recording patients height and weight
  • New patient health checks
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples, in accordance with practice procedures and protocols, and taking into account courier collection times
  • Restock/maintenance of all equipment within the treatment room
  • Restocking of clinical areas and the partners consulting rooms
  • Chaperoning
  • Assisting with minor surgical procedures carried out within the practice
  • Assisting with family planning clinics
  • Antipsychotic annual physical health checks
  • To assist in the seasonal and vaccination clinics as requested e.g. flu campaign
  • To explain procedures and making new, and follow-up appointments
  • Distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team
  • Liaising with multidisciplinary team members, external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Use AccuRX as appropriate to message patients
  • Processing of workflow/tasks
  • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or Managers
