Job summary
We
would like to welcome a skilled
and motivated Pharmacy Technician into our established, supportive PCN
pharmacy team.
Our
current team includes six
Clinical Pharmacists (including one Lead Pharmacist) and four Pharmacy Technicians (including
one Lead Pharmacy Technician).
You
will help deliver medicines optimisation, aid in the development of policies
and deliver projects to help support the NHS to be sustainable for the future.
We
can offer full-time or part-time working, and actively encourage a
good work-life balance. You could choose to combine this role with a part-time
role in a different sector as some of our team currently do.
The current pharmacy team have come from a variety of employment backgrounds, all bringing different qualities and transferable skills to the team. We are a dynamic, enthusiastic team and enjoy working together to support and share ideas. We are in regular contact both in person and using email, phone and online messaging.
Whilst
encouraging regular working in surgeries to develop colleague relationships
and a better understanding of how the practice teams work; hybrid working from home is
also possible in this role.
The
post includes a place on the fifteen-month PCPEP training pathway which allows you to develop your clinical and
consultation skills as well as network with Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacist
colleagues across the country doing similar roles.

Main duties of the job
Currently
the Pharmacy Technician role in the PCN includes (but is not limited to) the
following:

processing
hospital discharge summaries and liaising with patients, GP teams and community
pharmacies to ensure any medicines changes and necessary reviews are carried
out
-
advising on
the monitoring of high-risk drugs, and ensuring patients attend for appropriate
routine monitoring
- optimisation of lipid-lowering therapy following well-defined protocols
-
liaising with
community pharmacies about dosette boxes and out of stock medications to ensure
good patient care
-
carrying out
regular audits of pre-defined prescribing safety measures using the GP practice
clinical system
-
acting upon
MHRA drug alerts and recalls in conjunction with the PCN pharmacy team, and
communicating any outcomes with appropriate colleagues as necessary
- communicating
with patients to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making
conversations
- supporting
the clinical pharmacists to undertake structured medication reviews
- answering
medication-related queries from patients and surgery/PCN colleagues
About us
Severn
Health PCN is a network of five GP practices spreading from Stonehouse, into
central Stroud and through to Nailsworth, caring for 40,000 patients. We are
located near to the M5 motorway allowing an easy commute from nearby towns and
cities.
The PCN pharmacy team are trusted to manage daily
priorities independently; and actively contribute towards areas of priority for
the NHS in collaboration with other surgery and PCN staff. We
are encouraged to pursue CPD opportunities where available and benefit from the
breadth of knowledge and experience of other clinicians and non-clinicians within
the PCN.
We
have introduced teaching
sessions including local specialist teams to build on our existing knowledge
and allow us to better understand how we can work with the teams to benefit our
patients.

can give clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
Alongside
the pharmacy team, our network also includes Care Coordinators, Social

and an Executive Assistant.
A background of working in primary care is desirable, however candidates with relevant transferable skills would be considered.
