Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to complement our established and experienced team of nurses and HCAs. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a busy team environment and has a love of patient care.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Pay levels will be adjusted according to experience

The hours would be;

Mon 1345 - 1630

Tues 1345 - 1630

Weds 0830 1300 & 1400 1630

Fri 1330 1800

Total of 17 per week

About us

Balmoral Surgery is a busy training practice providing care and support for approximately 12,500 patients. The surgery team consists of four GP partners, two Salaried GPs, a Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner, three Practice Nurses, two Health Care Assistants, two pharmacy technicians and a strong reception and administration team who are an integral part to running the surgery.

We are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our team and this role will play a central role in our much valued and high performing nursing team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the GP Partners and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care.

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. However there may be, on occasions, a requirement to carry out other tasks as new initiatives develop. If the Health Care Assistant is not already familiar with the duties below, training will be given.

The main duties of the job include;

Phlebotomy

Urinalysis

Chaperoning Duties

ECG Recording

Carrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and record findings accurately

B12 Injections

New Patient Medicals

Flu Vaccinations

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Contraceptive pill checks

Assist with coil insertions
