Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and proactive GP Assistant to join our team. Familiarity with computer applications, databases, and medical terminology will be very advantageous. More than anything we are looking for an experienced and capable team player.

A GPA will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

Main duties of the job

Manage and champion recall systems for vaccinations, long term conditions etc.

Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacists etc.

Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients

Clinical safety searches.

To follow up the National Screening Programs, re refer, book patients, and encourage patients to attend their screening appointments.

Ensure all data and comms from screening programs is correctly coded into pt records.

To organise flu and covid vaccination campaigns, using social medica and text messaging, self-book appointments. Contact patients without mobiles and book them into to clinics.

Run monthly searches and submit the Flu vaccine payment claims.

To process incoming documents either electronically or via the post, code to patient record, contact patients to arrange follow up tests and forward any medication changes to the pharmacy hub.

Assist with Registration and record administration.

Assist with Referral administration, and Diabetes patient management referral to podiatry and diet programs etc.

To attend Quest training on 2nd Wednesday of the month (sometimes varies)

Any other tasks deemed necessary by the practice to ensure clinical safety.

Essential

  • Can demonstrate Maths and English at GCSE level
  • Can demonstrate qualifications at level 3 or higher i.e. A Level or similar or above

Desirable

  • GP Assistant Certificate qualification/willingness to undertake a GPA training course

Experience

  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • Experience of working with the general public
