Job summary

To provide Health Care Assistant (HCA) services in a GP Surgery to the practice population of Brotton Surgery.

Supported by the nursing team within the practice, the HCA will deliver care within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols

Main duties of the job

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Work alongside clinicians in the provision of patient care

Assist with minor surgery

Administer vaccinations as per HCA protocol

Phlebotomy

Follow up patients for wound care once reviewed by a registered clinician initially

Post-op procedures -suture and staple removal

Administer B12 injections as per HCA protocol

Assist with Learning Disability checks

Urinalysis

Measurement of height and weight- referring on when appropriate

Measurement of BP, temperature and pulse

Recording of ECGs

Ensure stock items are ordered and provided

Follow infection control standards

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Re-stocking store rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy

Desirable

  • Immunisation and Vaccination

Experience

Essential

  • EXPERIENCE WORKING IN A GP SURGERY OR HOSPITAL.

Desirable

  • Health and Safety Awareness
  • Basic first aid knowledge
