Main duties of the job

To be the first point of contact for anyone visiting the surgery or calling on the telephone and to provide a courteous and helpful service. It is a very busy and fast paced environment so excellent customer service is essential

To answer patient queries, follow up with hospitals and other organisations as needed.

To support the admin of the practice which includes scanning hospital correspondence, booking transport, sending referrals and managing tasks sent by the clinical team

Gordon House Surgery is a large training practice with 15,600 patients. We have 7 partners, 4 Salaried GPs a nursing team of 6 and a large reception and admin team.

Our mission is to provide an excellent, high quality health experience for all our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The medical receptionist role is for an enthusiastic, positive, self motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of our growing team. Our reception team are the first link for many patients who come to the surgery.

The role varies on a day to day basis including greeting patients as they arrive and checking them in, collecting patient notes and ensuring that these vital records go to the right healthcare professional.

The day to day also involves using the clinical system and other software programmes to make appointments, book patient transport, book interpreters and deal with test results. in addition, responding to tasks from clinical and non clinical staff and liaising with community services and emergency services.

Our reception team meet regularly to discuss best practice and ways of improving our service, we work very closely with other teams within the practice and community.

Discretion and respect for confidentiality

A friendly, sympathetic and reassuring manner

Great team working

Knowledge and use of microsoft office suite

Positive can do attitude

Flexibility

From time to time we ask our reception team to cover the annual leave of other team members through working paid overtime. Being flexible is important to us.
