Job summary

To provide quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients; to assist the dispensary manager in ensuring effective financial control of the dispensary and to assist the dispensary manager with day-to day management of the dispensing team and the branch sites.

Please note this is a bank contract.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry out all general duties associated with the dispensary and the related administration, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • To sign-post patients appropriately to the most relevant health care professional for their needs.
  • To use judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to patients enquiries and requests.
  • To receive and action patient requests for authorised repeat prescriptions in an efficient and timely manner.
  • To complete required returns and reports in a timely manner.
  • To maintain accurate manual and computerised records and make full use of the computer system.
  • To observe all practice protocols, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • To attend team meetings as and when requested with reasonable notice.
  • To provide relief cover, with prior agreement, in times of sickness or absence in order to continue to provide optimum staffing levels both in the dispensary and reception areas.
  • To assist with the day-to-day running of the branch site, including site security, opening-up and close-down procedures.
  • To maintain cost effective supplies of those drugs that are purchased directly and centrally on behalf of the practice.
  • To devise and explain to each dispenser/dispensary the mechanisms for ordering directly and from central supplies.

Our 3 partner practice has a patient population of over 11000+ patients and a staff of 3 further salaried GPs, 3 ANPs and a full complement of nurses, HCAs, dispensers, receptionists and admin staff all working alongside a growing number of additional PCN roles.

Based in the Forest of Dean, our Cinderford surgery serves the surrounding town and rural communities. In spacious, environmentally friendly new premises, we occupy the first purpose-built, dementia-friendly surgery in the UK. Patients can also access a full range of services at our branch site in the local village of Ruardean & Westbury-on-Severn
