Job summary

The Upstairs Surgery is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced General Practice Receptionist who is confident in using EMIS Web.

Are you great at assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Are you willing to provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone?If you answered yes to the above then we would love to hear from you. At The Upstairs Surgery, we are a small team who are always striving for excellence and are looking to expand our reception team.

Main duties of the job

  • To be fully experienced of the clinical system EMIS Web and the appointments and care history screens.
  • To answer all Telephone calls coming into the practice
  • Receiving patients consulting with members of practice team
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
  • Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person
  • Deal with visits requests in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Be able to cover all reception positions when necessary which would be anytime between the hours of 8.00am 8.00pm.
  • To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures
  • To work in accordance of written protocols
  • To be proactive and aware of work that needs to be done daily and completed
  • Process repeat prescription request in accordance with practice guidelines when necessary
  • Process patients change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of practice area)
  • Dealing with queries from clinicians
  • Have working knowledge of telephone, during and after hours
  • Pulling/filing notes when necessary and update as required
  • Making Tea / Coffee for all staff
  • Filing medical records
  • Processing Referrals as and when required
  • Scanning
  • Ambulance bookings
  • Assist with pathology links allocations to all Doctors
  • Any other admin duties as requested by the Practice Manager

  • Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
  • Close shutters, check rooms and lock up all of the surgery
  • Any other tasks allocated by manager

  • Any other task as allocated by Practice Manager

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
  • Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role
  • Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
  • Reporting potential risks identified
