Job summary

This placement is based within the Psychosocial Team at Launceston Medical Centre and primarily situated in the Health Hub on Exeter Street in Launceston Town Centre. Launceston Medical Centre is a forward thinking, busy GP practice with an interest in health inequality, biopsychosocial care and innovation. The Psychosocial team is led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with a Mental Health Nurse and Mental Health OT. There are two Trainee Clinical Psychologists per year from the University of Plymouth doctoral course. The team includes the Health Hub which has a team of non-Clinical professionals and volunteers working in a social prescribing and community psychology model.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team (MDT) working across the age span, with patients presenting with mental health difficulties, socioeconomic deprivation and isolation, an array of health conditions including addictions and dementias, and neurodivergency.

The post holder will learn an array of new skills and receive regular supervision from a final year Trainee Clinical Psychologist with supporting supervision and team working with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will be part of supporting the delivery of psychological and social prescribing services in the community and embedded in a supportive and multiprofessional team.

Job responsibilities

The key role of the Honorary Assistant Psychologist is to support the teams clinical and research duties and undertake administrative tasks, all under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

Clinical:

Supporting with the preparation of the monthly MDT within the psychosocial team at the hub. This includes reviewing patient notes.

Assisting with dementia assessments, writing clinical notes and scoring routine outcome and cognitive assessments.

Joining social prescriber appointments and supporting drop in events at the hub.

Processing neurodivergency referrals including conducting telephone triages with patients and scoring brief ADHD and ASD assessments then writing brief clinical letters.

Providing a first point of contact for patients attending our Health Hub, with a warm compassionate greeting and attention to patient confidentiality.

Discussing health prevention initiatives such as vaccinations with often anxious patients.

Occasional home visits to enable short-term psychologically informed work as outlined by our Mental Health Nurse.

Your clinical work will be conducted under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

Administrative:

Updating therapy and community group adverts and disseminating as appropriate.

Supporting Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Social Prescribing, and MH OTs with clinical notes following group sessions.
