Job summary

As a Salaried GP you will be working as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the Practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. The Salaried GP will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the Practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Launceston Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Salaried GP to join our supportive, flexible, friendly and forward-thinking team. We have a stunning new purpose-built leased premises providing an excellent working environment.

Our Practice:

  • We have a large and expanding multi-disciplinary team offering excellent support, including 6 Paramedics, 2 Nurse Practitioners, a Pharmacist, Physio and Social Prescribing team.
  • We are a training Practice
  • We have a full time in-house Clinical Psychologist with doctorate trainees - a ground breaking addition to our front-line team, which is improving mental health in the area and significantly reduces the mental health workload for our GPs.
  • Well organised admin teams
  • Clinical Directors of the Launceston and Tamar Valley Primary Care Network (PCN), steering the future of general practice in our area.
  • Excellent imbedded IT knowledge within the GP Practice allows us to be both innovative and supportive in this area.

About us

Launceston Medical Centre is a busy committed team working together in a recently extended and refurbished Practice in Launceston, close to the beautiful beaches of the north coast of Cornwall and surrounded by moorland countryside.

We have 6 Partners and 8 Salaried GPs (including remote GPs) with very experienced Management, IT, Reception, and Administration support. Additional allied professionals who work within our team are our Clinical Psychologists, Pharmacist, Physiotherapists and Social Prescriber. We are also proud to be a training practice.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties of the Role:

The following are core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

  • The delivery of highly effective medical care to the Practice population.
  • The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract
  • Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidelines.
  • Effective management of long-term conditions
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
  • On a rotational basis, undertake the role of Duty Doctor.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
  • Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the Practice workload
  • Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
  • Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or QOF
  • Attend and contribute effectively to Practice meetings as required
  • Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the Practice including; clinical governance and training
  • Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
  • Prepare and complete the revalidation process
  • Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the Practice team.
  • Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines
  • Support the Partners in achieving the strategic aims of the Practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
  • Review and adhere to the Practice protocols and polices at all times.
  • Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times.
